Nobody has to take MMCM's word for it.
MMCM: vehicle scrapping credits, India
Carbon credits for 20 million scrapped vehicles, government-verified. One credit per vehicle, issued and recorded by DOVU.
DOVU's role
Issues and records each credit, one per scrapped vehicle
MMCM runs the programme with the scrapping facilities. DOVU issues the credits and keeps the record. Anyone can check:
- That each credit maps to exactly one scrapped vehicle
- The government Certificate of Deposit behind that vehicle, stored as a hash on IPFS (a public file store)
- The 41+ measurement points captured per credit through dMRV (digital measurement, reporting and verification)
- That the methodology was validated by IIT Bombay
- Each credit's issuance, sale and retirement on the public ledger
The problem
India has 20 million end-of-life vehicles and adds 5 million a year. Only 0.1% go through official scrapping. The rest go to informal recyclers, which pollute, put unsafe parts back into circulation and leave no record. Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs), the licensed scrapyards, could not compete on price, and nothing rewarded proper practice or verified the emissions avoided.
What DOVU did
MMCM built India's first government-backed carbon credit programme for end-of-life vehicles. DOVU issues and records the credits.
- One credit per scrapped vehicle, issued as a fractional credit on a public ledger
- 41+ dMRV data points captured per credit to stop double counting
- Government Certificates of Deposit stored as IPFS hashes against each credit
- Policy run through Hedera Guardian, the open-source policy engine for the Hedera ledger
- Credits sold on dovu.market to vehicle makers offsetting Scope 3 emissions (emissions in their supply chain), logistics firms and individuals
- The extra revenue lets RVSFs compete with informal recyclers on price
“This is a hugely significant contract. We have built our platform to be the infrastructure of digital green credits at scale. The partnership with MMCM creates a digital ecosystem of global scale to orchestrate vehicle recycling, addressing price transparency, network synergies, and climate goals simultaneously.”
