DOVU

Nobody has to take the project's word for it.

Carbon credits with a record behind every one.

A credit is a claim: this much carbon was removed, or this much land was protected. DOVU records the measurement, the verification, the issue and the sale of each credit somewhere neither party controls. Buyers, registries and auditors check the facts without asking the project.

In plain terms

A credit is only as good as the record behind it.

A buyer paying for a tonne of carbon wants to know four things. Did the project exist? Did the measurement happen? Was the credit issued once? Has anyone else already used it?

Today the answers come from the project, the registry and the verifier, each holding its own version. DOVU writes one record that all three, and the buyer, read.

The problem

Buyers have had to take the project's paperwork on faith.

We learned this running our own marketplace. Every buyer wanted evidence. Every seller could only offer their own documents. Double counting, projected rather than measured carbon, and credits sold twice all came from the same gap: nobody outside the project could check.

The record fixes the gap. It holds what was measured, who verified it, when the credit was issued and whether it has been retired, where none of the parties can change it.

What DOVU records

Each credit, from field measurement to retirement.

Measurement

The field data behind a credit, captured through dMRV (digital measurement, reporting and verification) or a verifier’s site work.

Verification

The independent verifier’s result, attached to the credit it covers.

Issue

One credit per unit, issued once, with its project and period named.

Sale

The listed price and, where the programme states one, the share that goes to the landowner or farmer.

Retirement

Taking a credit out of circulation once it is used, so it cannot be sold again.

Running today

Programmes on four continents, one record.

Our own marketplace, dovu.market, lists these programmes with the same record behind each credit.

Underneath

Authority Trail and Flow, in carbon terms.

Authority Trail

Who may issue, verify and retire a credit, who gave them that role, and when it was taken away.

Flow

The programme's process, from enrolment to measurement to issue to sale, written once and run for every credit.

Who uses it

Anyone whose credits must survive a buyer's questions.

Project developers

Sell credits with a record buyers can check without asking you.

Registries and standards bodies

Hold one record of who may issue, verify and retire, and when each of those happened.

Article 6 programmes

Under the Paris Agreement, countries trade emission reductions. The record of authorisation and transfer is one both sides can read.

Corporates

Run insetting (cutting emissions inside your own supply chain) with a record your assurance provider will accept.
